Bishop's Stortford is lovely market town in the county of Hertfordshire in England. Bishop's Stortford has something of a mixed history, once a Roman settlement, abandoned in the fifth century and later becoming a new settlement inhabited by the Saxons. It was during the early nineteenth century that the town became a market town and later, during World War II, the population was boosted by an influx of evacues and today serves as a commuter town for those working in London and Cambridge. For the visitor there is plenty to see and do around Bishop's Stortford and the surrounding area but you may wish to spend some daytrips to other towns and villages. Transport links are superb with nearby Stansted Airport making it highly accessible to foriegn visitors.
