Hurlestone Tower, Lilburn, Northumberland

Northumberland is a county in the North East of England. The county borders Scotland to the North and this unfortunate position means that Northumberland has an often violent history and is the site of many horrific battles between the Scottish and English. Many of the historic sites associated with these battles are worth visiting and Hadrian's Wall and Dunstanburgh Castle prove popular destinations Large areas of the landscape are high moorland and a long coastline to the east making it extremely popular with artists and photographers, much of Northumberland falls within the boudaries of the Northumberland National Park. Following the moving of county boundaries many places which once fell within Northumberland are now to be found in Tyne and Wear.
