Nottingham is the county town of Nottinghamshire, a county in the East Midlands of England. The city is situated at a strategic crossing point on the River Trent. William the Conqueror built a castle on the hill opposite the city in 1068 and, unfortunately for us, it was destroyed during the English Civil War. The present Nottingham Castle was built between 1674 and 1679 and it is well worth a visit. The Market Square at Nottingham is an open plaza surrounded by shops and offices, and it is where you will find th superb neo-Baroque Council House (pictured above).

There are plenty of other tourist attractions and places to visit in the city of Nottingham, including the Lace Market. During the Industrial Revolution the Lace Market was the centre of the world's lace making industry.
