Stranraer is a town in the county of Dumfries and Galloway in the South West of Scotland. situated on the shores of Loch Ryan, Stranraer is a ferry port which connects Scotland with Belfast in Northern Ireland. The first harbour was built in the middle of the 18th century was expanded in the 19th century and, with the coming of the railway in 1862, the town continued to grow. There are a number of places of interest in and nearby Stranraer including Stranraer Castle (also known as the Castle of St John and pictured above), plus several gardens such as Castle Kennedy Gardens and Logan Botanic Garden.
